My first Official Cake Order

Last weekend, I went way way out of my comfort zone and made cake for real life people - what I mean by this is that I made cake for people who weren't related to me or go to my church! Shout out to Bruna, Alberto and Marina for taking a chance on me.
It was a very hectic weekend to say the least. I had to make 2 birthday cakes and a loaf cake for a church breakfast, luckily I didn't mess up the cake orders. However, I ended up doubling the loaf cake recipe and making FOUR loaves of cake instead of two...there was so much cake mixture my kenwood could not take the capacity so I had to mix the old fashioned way (on the plus side my biceps are super toned now...JK)!
My cake making started out on Friday night when I started making Bruna and Alberto's birthday cake. Their cake was much more simple -a chocolate sponge with chocolate buttercream swirls and maltesers. If you want to make this sponge cake, go to my "Chocolate cupcakes" post and multiply the ingredients by 1.5 to get the right amount of batter.
I let the sponge sit in its tin overnight and I did all the buttercream, constructing and decorating the next day. One of my biggest concerns for this cake was transportation. It was forecast to be raining the night of the party and I didn't have a container big enough. Luckily my mum found a cake shop in Maia that had a large selection of boxes. The cake in itself did not take a long time to make, the most tedious part was the cake bunting....It took what seemed like hours to make. Firstly, I had to twist two different colours of string together, because I could not find a ball of string that already had two colours in it...bother. Then I had to cut out each letter and glue it onto the string, making sure it was at the right height for the cake. I got it done eventually (thanks mum for lending a hand!) The cake was a success and I am really ecstatic about the great feedback I got from it!

If you would like me to do a post on how to make cake bunting, comment below!

My second cake order was for my chocolate, salted caramel pretzel cake. I made this one once before for my mum's birthday and I have to say it is one of the most impressive cakes I have ever made. I made the two different sponges on Sunday along with the salted caramel. Then on Monday I made the butter cream and ganache and constructed it. The main difficulty of this cake was that I had to make it during the school week and therefore I had to effectively manage my time. Everyone who tried it really enjoyed it.

I am really surprised that both orders went so well, last time I made something for real people, a fire started in my oven - check out my Kitchen Catastrophes post for more information! All in all both were a great success and I thoroughly enjoyed spending my weekend making cake.
